Hardware
KRAFT must never require you to buy anything in order to be useful. That is not a marketing statement. That is a constraint in the design.
The cluster
A node does not report which programs it has installed. It reports what it can compute.
Capabilities instead of applications: image_tile, gpu, neural_engine, file_range. The scheduler sends a node only what that node has declared. Invalid assignments do not exist — they never come about in the first place.
Transport policy
Wi-Fi is there for discovery and control. Active computation requires wired transport.
This is not a decision of convenience but one of physics. An atom whose input travels over a fluctuating radio link breaks the promise everything is built on: that the result is there before the process needs it. If the transfer does not pay off, the work stays local — and that is the right outcome, not a failure.
The cluster is an implementation detail.
You should never see it.
KRAFT — Principle No. 2
Target devices
Built for Apple Silicon. Open to anything that can declare a capability.
Primary target. CPU, GPU and Neural Engine in one device — the densest source of computation in the household.
Full workers for CPU-bound atoms. An old device is not a worthless device.
The ideal always-on node. Always on, always wired, never in the way.
They contribute as long as they are open and on power. Closing the lid means leaving — without consequences.
Attached as a worker over a wired usbmux bridge. Neural Engine and tensor batches instead of unused screen time.
A cross-platform agent. The IR does not change for it — that is exactly why the IR exists.
